The Problem

Today, millions of boats pollute our waters - one small leak at a time. EPA estimates 137 million gallons of petroleum pollution are released into US waterways annually [in small volumes] from the bilges of boats. By design, a boat’s bilge collects water and other hazardous fluids such as oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, grease, transmission fluid etc. These hazardous waste fluids, if not removed prior to operation of the bilge pump, are discharged (pumped) overboard with the bilge water, causing a sheen and polluting the surrounding waterway. Current examples on Puget Sound in Seattle, Washington include fines of up to $5,000 assessed on boat owners whose bilge pump discharge causes a noticeable sheen on the water's surface surrounding their boat in its mooring.

Historically, there has not been a method or device to prevent this harmful discharge.  Now, there is HarborGard™.
